Veil Yourself

Rihanna has had a tough year but the girl continues to persevere and proves to remain a fashion force to be reckoned with.  She is always seen rocking over the top fashions but somehow manages to pull off every look.  This weekend while performing a segment for the new year, she once again knocked it out of the park.  The most interesting part of her glam outfit was the veiled, flower topping hat from couture designer Heather Huey. Heather's designs have been seen on the pages of W, Vogue, and Bazaar to name a few.  Stylists everywhere covet her amazing fashions. She recently told Style.com that  “They actually pulled an eclectic mix of my headpieces and shoulder cages, but the flowered top hat certainly suited the occasion. Rihanna has proven over the years that she can rock a softer look as well as a hard look.”. Get ahead of the trend and veil yourself with Heather Huey. Come on, we all want to be rockstars.

Bostonians Brave the Elements

Kate Moss

Bostonians know there are a harsh few months ahead.  The winter is finally here and there are a few essentials needed to stay warm while still remaining stylish.  Fighting the snow can be difficult, so some waterproof, lined boots are a necessity.  Try on a pair of rubber ducks from 80's Purple or the ever-so-chic Jargon boots from Nine West.  Tuck them into a pair of skinny jeans or heavy sweater tights.  One of the bright sides of a dreary winter is that layering provides added warmth and style at the same time.  American Apparel is a great resource ranging from spandex leggings to sweatshirt type tops that maintain a feminine silhouette.  This is the key to stay toasty warm.  The winter options out there are endless.  Faux-fur coats are another sure way to keep the nippy chill away.  Try out  H&M's wide selection of faux fur vest and coats or the ultra chic Alice + Olivia leopard style. Scarves from Madewell are a must to shield the wind as are basic beanies or berets. To avoid chapped, dry hands, do not forget some fabulous winter gloves.  For a rocker chic look, try 3.1 Phillip Lim studded gloves to add an extra edge.  Brave the elements in style.  Need some inspiration, just look at Kate Moss.

BOSTON ROCKS VERAMEAT

Today I was reading the Daily Candy and what pops up? A Boston Terrier face crafted out of gold brass and molded into my favorite form of jewelry, a ring.  For those who don't know, I also own a company called Scout and Lu based upon MY own two Bostons.  This ring  by a company called VERAMEAT comes in gold, silver, and red copper, the perfect piece for any fellow Bostonista.  As I kept reading, I found out this ring is right down the street from me in Flock Boutique at 274 Shawmut Ave.  I am running down there to buy mine as soon as I can get my boots on!

VERAMEAT.
Show in Copper Brass, $150.

The Hue of Denim Blue

The new color I have me eye on is this denim blue hue I am seeing pop up everywhere on the runways. Take this Alexander Wang bag for example, the contrast with the black is a perfect combination. I wonder who will carry it first....

Britney on the cover of Elle 2010

Someone I have always wanted to get my hands on is Miss Britney Spears.  She used to be a trendsetter and now some say a train wreck.  I think she has a potential.  I am probably bias since I have always been a fan.  Her body is amazing and obviously she has that pop star look.  If only she would pull it all together with some simple steps.  First, take out the extensions and keep the roots blonde! Your face is pretty enough to hold the hairstyle short while you grow it out.  Next, being a mother of two and always on the go, keep it simple.  Wear some long basic sweaters as we face winter, throw on skinny jeans, and knee-high boots.  You can wear dresses with any kind of tights.  There are so many to choose from right now.  Pick out some basic attire and dress it up with accessories such as the fedora or newsboy cap as we have seen you wear.  Makeup should be simple too.  When you have have a rough night's sleep, put on some of those big shades as we have seen all the celebrities do.  We all know you have it in there Britney, let's see that fashion icon pop out as well.

and the AMA goes to.....

Kate Hudson.  She nailed this event with her funky, rocker chic look.  This stunner was perfect for the American Music Awards.  The actress always knows how to dress appropriately for any event whether it be the Oscars or a Yankee game.  This stunning Versace number was fabulous with its plunging neckline. Her metallic Casadei pumps and pulled back hair added the right amount of simplicity to this daring dress.

TED BAKER LONDON

201 NEWBURY STREET
I recently celebrated the opening of the flagship Ted Baker London Store in Boston hosted by CBH Communications.  Upon walking off of the purple carpet, I was stunned by the checkerboard floor and how beautiful this store really is.  The dressing rooms are so amazing and comfy I never wanted to leave.  The clothing speaks for itself and the quality is truly outstanding.  I had my eye on this cashmere candy apple red poncho all night. Everything is elegant chic and can be paired up with any sort of accessories you may want to rock.  I am in love with the pear colored Tea Pot I received.  Thanks Ted! Check it out.

Jeweled Up

My friend Samantha House is bringing her jewelry line to Boston. Intermix already carries the jewels and they can never keep them in stock.  New York high-end departments like Neiman Marcus are also fans of the line. Her designs are so original worn day or night.  They will truly dress up any outfit or occasion.  Check out some of my favorites from her 2010 Look Book and more press to come.

Ageless Attitude

I think someone's personal style comes naturally.  Some may need help in finding the right way to work it but think back to when you were little.  Did you like to dress up or put on your mom's makeup?  I remember fighting with my mom several times at the age of four because I wanted to wear my pale yellow bubble dress every single day.  I knew what I wanted. What can I say? This is my cousin Ella. Does anyone see a fashionista in the making?

Madewell 1937

It was Boston Fashion Week and the events were all a blast.  I was particularly impressed by the Madewell 1937 store on Newbury.  J.Crew CEO Millard Drexler  is behind the line and she nailed it.  The jeans are all different styles and fits and the staff is right on to help find you what you need....like your own personal stylist in the store.  The blazers with their beautiful gold buttons are perfectly fitted and the lining shows a unique pattern.  The staff by the way were also in elite shape modeling the line.  I was so impressed with one employee, Simone, I couldnt stop staring at.  I noticed a great deal of Dr.Marten esque type boots in the store and Simone wore them perfectly with her ensemble.  I think the boots I used to rock in grade school are coming back.  I wonder if my mom still has mine.  Simone shows how to take a couple trends together without trying to hard.  Her hairband was just a bonus.  I loved the way she wore it and how it sparkled.  I should have asked her where she got it.  Next time!

Check out their website which is pretty cool:www.madewell1937

Wave that magic WAND

One of my must have products is DIORSHOW Black Out Mascara.  This mascara will make any man black out with one flutter of your eyelashes.  This rich mascara make lashes so full and thick with ultra black kohl pigments, it appears as if your wearing false ones.  This is said about so many mascaras out there now but this one is a true staple for any cosmetic bag. I swear by it.  In fact, I am going to purchase a new tube today! Drama, drama, drama.

*Always change your mascara at least once every three months.

and the EMMY goes to.....

January Jones was not looking like Betty Draper last night and took a step into the 21st century with her modern look and makeup.  I love that she steered so far away from her character and took a chance.  Let's face it though, she can do no wrong. Whether modeling her 50's attire or this pink Atelier Versace gown, Neil Lane jewels, and Jimmy Choo heels, January has become one of my favorite fashionistas.

and the VMA goes to....

Beyonce Knowles.  Not only did she save the night but she looked killer doing it.  The red Roberto Cavalli mini was perfect for this classy lady.  Her Lorraine Schwartz jewelry added just the right amount of edge.

SOWA MARKET

I also own a company called Scout and Lu based on my two Boston Terriers. It is a doggie accessory company as well as my paintings. Yesterday, we were vendors at the South End Open Market. I had the chance to look around at all the different outfits and styles. There are so many creative, unique people at these markets but you also see that city chic. I took some pictures of a few of the people that caught my eye. They used simple pieces to put together the perfect outfit for a Sunday stroll.

Fashion Icon

Kate Moss is my ultimate fashion icon. Everything she does is amazing. She has this talent to always look chic yet look like she just threw it on. She truly defines the word style and doesn't apologize for any of her looks. You can tell she only wants to please herself and that is who a woman should dress for. I love how she is so original and is always at the head of every trend whether you realize it or not. She is a mother yet still pulls off such a youthful, free vibe effortlessly. I always look at her pictures when I need some inspiration. A little black eyeliner and some great boots can go a long way as she shows accessories can add the final touch. Here is a link to some of her iconic looks. Kate Moss Style

Dreary weather

This weather is not fun for anyone in Boston. It does however give us a chance to break back out some of our key fall/winter accessories. I have been wearing my favorite black pants rolled up into cuffs with some cute flats or sandals. I usually pair them with a blazer or a crisp white T-shirt. I accessorize with a hat or some jewelry. This way you are still chic but dressed for the rain or humidity. Then when we see the sun again we can go back to some of our great summer dresses! Even though the weather is not what we want it to be, we can still look fabulous trucking through it with our Burberry umbrellas.
