What To Wear

At least twice a month I like to venture down to SOWA Open Market on Harrison Ave. It is a local artisan market that lasts about 4 months and features over a hundred artists' work along with antiques, food, and more. I had to keep cool seeing as it was 90 degrees out and paired a light dress with airy sandals. This whole look is under $100.
H&M dress ($12.95); AE sandals ($15 sale, 2 seasons ago); Club Monaco belt ($7 clearance, last season); Michael Kors vintage bag ($15 vintage shop) H&M feather necklace ($3.95)

H&M is a great resource for finding something basic on the cheap and for trying trends. It won't cost a lot for you to try something different. The dress can also be transitioned to wear for several occasions.

While at the market, I once again saw artist Josephine Plaszewski whom I adore. Her paintings are pastel dreams with subjects like a dog with a crown, birthday cakes, and cotton candy flowers. She definitely has a signature with her serene color palette and painting technique. Most interesting, Josephine is a green artist using recycled canvas, brushes, etc. I love her stacking teapot Alice in Wonderland lamps.

Vintage Baby Fashion

My cousin just had a gorgeous baby girl named Ava. As I was shopping at one of my haunts, Aunt Sadie's on Union Park, I stumbled upon this adorable vintage baby smock. How fitting and just in time!
The fabric is made of a yarn-like fabric in baby blue and white.
Sweet ribbon enclosure.....
Take another ribbon to attach a note...
All wrapped and ready to create another style icon!

Fresh Summer Skin

The reason Sandra Curzi has won "Boston’s Best Facial" four times is because she is that good. She has worked on what is considered one of the world’s most renowned areas in beauty for over thirty years, the infamous Newbury Street. This summer with the heat rising, the best beauty trend you can fight back with is clear skin. Sandra shares  her tips to achieve that dewy, skin here!

“A person’s skin is part of a whole system and it reacts to other things like stress and lack of sleep, lousy diet or no exercise. I can tell them if a certain part of a face is breaking out from hormones, stress, and an outside cause like a ball cap, bangs or the phone near their chin. Educating my clients about what triggers a breakout help to avoid these triggers. Last month, I told a young male client to keep his hair off his forehead and it worked like a charm in one month.”

What is the best advice for skin especially during Boston’s humid summers?

“The best skin care advice is often specifically tailored to a client's skin care problem. In summer, the best thing you can do for skin is use sun protection every day even if you are not lying on a beach somewhere. Try to get a facial once a month and use good skin care products. It is the same as getting your teeth cleaned by the dental hygienist and brushing and flossing. There are so many professional treatments to keep one's skin looking perfect at any age and for every season. Each season brings different problems.”

There are so many myths about skin care. What is one that comes to mind especially about summer?

“I have heard so many but I think the worst advice I heard is that tanning will get rid of pimples and that the sun will dry them out. This seems some times to work but it will make the skin worse in a few weeks. The sun compromises your immune system and causes it not to be able to fight off infections giving a boost to low grade, opportunistic viruses lurking in our bodies so two weeks later or sooner your skin may break out worse. Tanning also may look better but, it does age the skin. It also changes the instructions in the skin cells leading to wrinkles and skin cancers.”

What products do you suggest that show some a real difference?

Dr.Renaud products are wonderful because they change with the research. They have healing treatments for fragile skin to acne problems. Their research team is always seeking better treatments from natural products. Skincueticals is the other line I carry. It is remarkable for the aging process and helping your own skin recover elasticity and resilience. There are a lot of copy cats but I know his stuff is the real thing. They both give amazing results.”

You have clearly been noticed for your skills. What makes you stand out to give such great advice?

“I love what I do and I am completely into solving the clients’ skin care problems. Secondly, it's 40 years of experience in learning and applying the treatments to solve the problems. Third, I love teaching them about their skin and how to incorporate good habits into their lifestyle. I treat the skin holistically which is why I ask them about their lifestyle: how much sleep do they get, do they have a stressful job or life, what's their diet like, etc."

"Often, I find out from the first treatment what they should change to see a change in their skin. So many of my clients have been with me and aged along with me for years. I could not imagine doing any other thing. My friends refer to it as a part time “hobby”. That's why I'm so good at it.”

A Ferry Away on Martha's Vineyard

I spent the past two days relaxing in Martha's Vineyard because my boyfriend's grandparents have a house there. I traveled with Justin's family and even the dogs came on the trip with us! We drove the 1hr 1/2 to Woods Hole to take the ferry another 45 minutes. It was beautiful on the ferry as we chose to sit on the upper deck.

We traveled into Edgartown which I fell in  love with. It is simply beautiful. We passed a few landmarks and town treasures. This dog was one of them while walking by a gallery on the water. He looked so timeless in the way he standing, I had to capture him on film. I wonder what his name was?

Next came a store I read about awhile ago in one of my numerous fashion magazines named Portobello Road. It is filled with paintings, antiques, cards, candles, vintage, and a million other trinkets. The design of the store is fantastic it is unforgettable. They use rustic wood benches to display items like frames of memorable sayings.

THIS WAS PAINTED ON THE FLOOR

PICTURES AND A FRAME USED AS A SHELF; BRILLIANT!

I HAVE TO SAY I AM A SUCKER FOR A GOOD SAYING AND I BOUGHT TWO THESE. "KEEP COOL" AND "NOW OR NEVER".
DO YOU SEE THE SHELF HOLDING THE PAINTINGS IS A GORGEOUS MIRROR TOO?

I CAME ALL THE WAY FROM BOSTON TO FIND AUNT SADIE'S CANDLES FROM THE STORE ON MY STREET!
A "GREEN MONSTER" SIGN PAINTED ON RUSTIC WOOD AND MODELED ON AN IRON BENCH.
CELTICS FANS AND AN OVERVIEW OF THE WALLS.
A GUIDE WE ALL COULD USE.
J OUTSIDE THE STORE.

Thanks for sharing my trip with me. Has anyone ever been to Portobello Road?

The Hills Finale

Last night The Hills finale aired to a surprising but fitting ending leaving it up to us to decide what was real and what was scripted. I appreciated the show not ignoring what was out there in the press and stepping away from the traditional sappy ending. It did evoke emotion mainly because we have followed these teens to stardom, silicone, and lots of money. What did you think? Watch a clip of the ending from People here.

On another note, Lauren Conrad looked amazing in her long sleeved mini dress and nude pumps. Her hair was stunning up high in a ponytail and wavy wearing her traditional cat eye makeup. I can't wait for her style book out October with her third novel, Sugar and Spice.

A trip to Company C

Over the Independence holiday, I went to Deerfield New Hampshire known for it spectacular "antique alley". Basically, there is nothing around but a few, spectacular antique shops. My journey included Boston interior designer Amy Chalmers, or as she is known in blog land, "Maison Decor." Read her post about the trip here. About twenty minutes down the long road emerged Company C, the colorful furniture and accessories store. It is fabulous and so brilliantly decorated inside.

Immediately, I was taken by the exquisite, detailed rugs. It all started back in 1994 with couple Chris and Walter Chapin and a passion for color in their small garage. Now a powerhouse, Company C is ruling the decorating world! Here are some pictures from my trip. Now, all I need is a Company C rug to match my newly revamped living room!
I love the lettering they use about their register. It is so creative!

Hello Gorgeous! The fabric is so elegant and I love mixing all the floral together. It is not seen that much. The yellow throw is the perfect amount of one solid color.
The throws are luxurious and the display of books was beautiful.
My future child's bedroom. Look at how they refurbished an ottoman with a rug! Brilliant. Every color is there for a reason. I adore the small headboard.
Look at what Company C uses for a sale bin. Cool!
Every table had these unique wheels and were low to the ground.
Overall, I fell head over heels for Company C. They will soon become a part of my home!
